Let's go position by position, in order (since positions do count).

1) Pitcher - Randy "Big Unit" Johnson infamously struck a dove mid-flight with a 100 MPH pitch during a 2001 spring training game; now, he's a professional wildlife and concert photograper. Shift 1 to extract O.

2) Catcher - Thurman "The Walrus" Munson wasn't the namesake for Woody Harrelson's character in Kingpin, but they're both Munsons. Shift 2 to extract N.

3) First Base - Will "The Thrill" Clark wasn't the namesake for the Clark bar, but he had a sweet swing all the same. Shift 3 to extract K/L.

4) Second Base - "Little Joe" Morgan was a little guy with some big skills at the keystone. Shift 4 to extract P/S.

5) Third Base - Pete "Charlie Hustle" Rose is one of the more controversial figures of all baseball history, but nobody dare question his dang hustle. Shift 5 to extract Y.

6) Shortstop - Ozzie "The Wizard" Smith had nothing to do with Fozzie bear, but he did do a backflip on the way out to his position. Whether the nickname was more of a nod to the Wizard of Oz or to the wizardry of his defensive skills, nobody can say. Shift 6 to extract G.

7) Left Field - Tim "Rock" Raines, as one story goes, was nicknamed Rock due to his physique. As the other story goes, Major League Baseball in the 80s was a notoriously coked up scene (and Rock admitted in court during the Pittsburgh Drug Trials to sliding headfirst to protect the vial of, uh, uppers, that he kept in his back pocket. Shift 7 to extract R.

8) Center Field - Tris "The Grey Eagle" Speaker used to crank up the subwoofer he carried in the back of his Model T so high that the Mayor of Cleveland threatened to trade him back to Boston. Shift 8 to PI.

9) Right Field - Al "Mister Tiger" Kaline was like the Energizer bunny patrolling Detroit's outfield for 20+ years. Mister Tiger indeed. Shift 9 to RARA (we really leaned on Al in this hunt!).

Not much to do with ONKLPSYGRPIRARA other than rearrange it, on theme, to: ROYAL[S]PRINGPARK, a.k.a.
