In spite of a couple botches on my part, 5 people were nevertheless able to successfully solve this hunt! The "key" was understanding that the 9-digit strings were actually 10-digit ISBN numbers identifying books (with the leading '0' removed). Once all of these books were identified, the keen solver understood that they have each been put forth, by some literary muckety-muck or another, as the "Great American Novel" or the "GAN" - which was your Vigenere key for the given ciphertext. Now ... let's get to my mistakes. In the mess of ISBN numbers that I extracted from dozens and dozens of novels, I somehow bungled The Invisible Man in the end, pasting a Wells' ISBN rather than the intended Ellison ISBN. Consider that an intended element of the hunt where you were meant to ignore the "invisible man" and just focus on the remaining actual GAN candidates! Lastly, somehow, the hunt's solve (Moby-Dick) made it into the final list, which was also unintended. It was tricky finding ISBNs that "looked different" enough from one another that the pattern wouldn't be instantly spotted, and I goofed putting that one back in. It was supposed to be a "surprise entry" to the list. Anyway, 5 of you still got it, so let's focus on that instead! Congrats to the winners!
